- New Members: Before switching on any radio equipment you should seek out a Committee Member or a ‘B’ Certificate holder. Committee Members can be identified by their GOLD membership card fob.
- All models should be built to such a standard that under normal operating conditions they should not fail. Particular attention should be paid to the ball joints, bolts, nuts, screws, etc. If you are in doubt, the model shall not be flown until the offending part(s) is replaced.
- Particular attention should be paid to the radio installation to prevent vibration reaching the equipment. Servos should be mounted to the manufacturer’s specifications.
- Blades:
Main and tail rotor blades, wooden ones in particular, should be reinforced at the root.
Rotor blades sets MUST be carefully balanced before the model is flown.
DO NOT FLY WITH CHIPPED, SPLIT OR DAMAGED MAIN OR TAIL BLADES.
Do not assume that sets of Carbon Fibre blades are pre-balanced
- Regular maintenance should be carried out to reduce the possibility of failure of the model.
- Before switching on a 35Mhz transmitter ensure that you have the correct crystal in both the transmitter and receiver. Some makes of transmitter may show a different number on the crystal, if you need to find out what frequency you are on, consult the frequencies list. The 35Mhz frequency table can be found at the end of this document.
It is your responsibility to know what frequency you are flying on at all times!
- (A) 35Mhz,
Before switching on your 35Mhz transmitter, go to the peg board. You will see a complete range of 35Mhz frequency pegs from 55-90, each with a WHITE FREQUENCEY TAG attached (This has the frequency embossed and printed on it)
If this peg is on the board, then that frequency is available. Remove this peg and replace it with your PERSONAL PEG attached to YOUR MEMBERSHIP CARD.
You MUST attach the white frequency tag to your transmitter while you are using that frequency! This is to clearly identify your use of that frequency.
You should return the Frequency peg after each flight and check that the transmitter is switched off!
If the white frequency peg and tag is NOT on the board then that frequency is already in use. Under no circumstances turn on your transmitter!. You should wait for the tag to be returned to the board. If in doubt, you should seek the help of a committee member BEFORE proceeding.
In the event that a model is shot down, i.e. through careless transmitter use, the offending party will be obliged to reimburse the victim for the cost of replacement parts.
(B) 2.4Ghz,
Before switching on your 2.4Ghz transmitter, go to the peg board. You will see a number of 2.4Ghz FREQUENCY CONTROL pegs each with a BLACK TAG attached. Remove this peg and replace it with your PERSONAL PEG attached to YOUR MEMBERSHIP CARD.
You MUST attach the Black frequency tag to your transmitter while using the 2.4Ghz system. This is to clearly identify your use of the 2.4Ghz system.
You should return the 2.4Ghz peg after each flight and check that the transmitter is switched off!
- Check that all the switches on the transmitter are in their correct position, i.e. all the idle-up switches are in their off position.
- Never run the helicopter up without blades fitted. Never hold the model above your head to run up the engine.
- Do not run up or hover your helicopter in the pit area. When starting the engine, or carrying the model hold the rotor head firmly. You should always hold the rotor head firmly whenever the engine is running in the pits area!
- Models should be carried out to the flight line this line, is indicated by a line of cones and/or posts running down the length of the flying field. Both you and the model should be over that line whilst operating the model.
- Always be aware of other models operating in the flying area, and give a good distance between each flyer.
- Pilots must not fly over the heads of other flyers.
- Do not fly a model back to the pits. It should be landed a safe distance away from the flight line and the engine stopped. Do not approach the model until the main rotors have slowed or preferably stopped. Do not leave the model unattended with its engine running at any time.
- UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU FLY OVER THE PITS AREA AND/OR THE CAR PARK AREA. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS VIOLATION OF THE CLUB RULES.
- All Instructions issued by a committee member must be followed.
- The parking of cars on the flying area is not allowed; a separate parking area is provided for your use.
- If you are the last to leave the field, ensure that the gate is locked behind you.
- Beware of ALL low-flying aircraft. If you observe a full size aircraft which is performing a landing approach, you should land your model or at the very least restrict its height to a low level. If an AIR HORN sounds you should land your model.
- All members’ machines must be capable of passing the 82dB sound level test as per BMFA regulations. Each machine must be sound tested and have a certificate issued, a copy to be held on file with that members records.
- All FAIL-SAFE equipped receivers should be set in accordance with BMFA regulations.
- Electric Helicopters. The Flight battery (used to power the motor) should not be connected or switched on in the pits at any time, and should only be connected or switched on when the model is over the flight line.
- ALL Operators of TURBINE and GASSER Helicopters should carry an operational 2kg CO2 fire extinguisher.
- Turbine operators should possess at least a BMFA’ ‘A’ Certificate.
- It is the Members responsibility to insure that you immediately inform the club of a change in your address and/or telephone number.
- All members should always have available a way of calling the emergency services in case the need arises
- Mobile phones should be turned off at the flight line or when flying.
- A club instructor or nominated pilot, cannot be held responsible if a model is damaged during instruction.
- Electric helicopters with rotor blades of up to 340mm will be permitted to fly up to 20:00hrs on Saturday, Sunday and Wednesdays. This rule will be strictly enforced!
